Fuel Surcharge

The fuel surcharge effective January 2, 2012 to February 5, 2012 is 10.50%.

The fuel surcharge effective February 6, 2012 to March 4, 2012 will be 11.00% for Preferred Savings, List Rate or non-account customers and 18.00% for Purolator Volume Discount Program customers.

The fuel surcharge for the period beginning March 5, 2012 will be posted the week of February 20, 2012.

Calculation of the Fuel Surcharge

Purolator’s Dynamic Fuel Surcharge Table below indicates the fuel surcharge based upon the average four week price of regular unleaded gasoline calculated by Purolator using the weekly average prices reported by MJ Ervin and Associates Inc., a company that monitors fuel prices across Canada.

Note: If your discounts are fixed to certain rates (i.e., your discount is not based on our current published list rates available at purolator.com) and we have not yet adjusted your discounts to reflect the 2012 Dynamic Fuel Surcharge Table below, please refer to the Dynamic Fuel Surcharge Table, effective from August 2, 2010 to January 1, 2012.

The fuel surcharge effective January 2, 2012 to february 5, 2012 is based on an average four week price of $1.20/litre. The fuel surcharge effective February 6, 2012 to March 4, 2012 is based on an average four week price of $1.21/litre.

About Purolator’s Fuel Surcharge

Fuel represents a significant variable cost in the provision of transportation services. Employing a variable fuel surcharge allows Purolator to avoid frequent changes to its service rates and allows the overall cost of shipping to vary (both up and down) with the market price of fuel. Although Purolator uses gasoline, diesel, aviation and jet fuel in the provision of its services, Purolator’s fuel surcharge is automatically adjusted based on changes in the market price of unleaded gasoline in order to provide Purolator’s customers with an easy to understand basis for changes (both up and down) in Purolator’s fuel surcharge. In addition to automatic adjustments, Purolator’s fuel surcharge is subject to adjustment upon changes by Purolator to the surcharge trigger point ranges and associated percentages set out in the Dynamic Fuel Surcharge Table above.

The fuel surcharge applies to all courier shipments tendered to Purolator regardless of destination or selected mode of carriage. The fuel surcharge for courier shipments (other than Purolator Same Day^TM shipments) is applied to the sum of the service rate, ExpressCheque^® and beyond point surcharges. The fuel surcharge for Purolator Same Day shipments is applied to the sum of the service rate and special van request charge. Other specialized service charges, administrative and shipping surcharges and taxes are excluded from the calculation.
