Purolator re-certified as Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism member

December 10, 2009 (Toronto, Ontario) Purolator Courier Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has received its Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) re-certification membership approval (courier operations).

C-TPAT is an initiative that originates with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in the Department of Homeland Security. Its purpose is to secure the entire supply chain, both domestic and foreign, of goods imported to the United States. Participants must meet minimum security requirements and designated best practices. CBP supply chain specialists verify compliance in the United States and around the globe.

Companies who achieved C-TPAT accreditation are expected to secure their supply chains against possible compromise, communicate their efforts to their business partners and maintain a high level of compliance in other customs related areas.

In addition to C-TPAT, Purolator is a certified member of the Canada Border Services Agency's (CBSA) modernized Partners in Protection (PIP) program. The PIP program enlists the cooperation of private industry to enhance border and supply chain security, combat organized crime and terrorism as well as help detect and prevent contraband smuggling.

The modernized PIP program, released by the CBSA in June 2008, is geared toward enhancing supply chain security and was re-designed to achieve mutual recognition and compatibility with U.S. Customs and Border's C-TPAT program.

Imbedded in both PIP and C-TPAT is the FAST program which stands for Free and Secure Trade. This is a high visibility program that recognizes low risk surface carriers and is acknowledged by both U.S. and Canadian Customs authorities.

"Since receiving its first accreditation in 2003, Purolator continues to demonstrate its commitment to securing its supply chain against possible compromise and ensuring program compliance in customs-related areas while doing its part to further enhance Canada/U.S border security," said Michael Coté, Purolator's Vice President of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs. "Our re-certification in the C-TPAT program, as well as the PIP program in 2008, is recognition of the success of these efforts."
